There are many ways to get traffic to your blog, but do you know how to monetize a blog?
Instead of telling you where you could make money from your blog, I am going to use my own personal website as a case study.
You will see the different ways I am monetizing my blog and earning a steady income from it. Most of this work happens behind the scenes while I continuously work on growing my business. So, with the right monetization methods, you can also enjoy passive income from your blog.
The best part is that you can easily replicate what I have done, and you will get the monetization really fast.

How to Monetize a Blog
There are many ways to make money online as I talked about here and here. Many of these earning methods are without many investments. And since I am using my own blog as an example, you will see that you won’t need to invest more than your time to start making money.
Here are the ways I use to monetize my blog.
Google Adsense Program
Google Adsense is an advertising program open for publishers to join. They allow you to easily monetize your blog by adding ads to your blog pages.
These ads include texts, images, and banner ads on your blog. They have a CPC that allows you to make money when someone clicks on an ad.
As you would find on my page, I have ads on the top and in the middle of the article. These ads change depending on the content of the website and the user’s navigation history. Google attempts to optimize them for maximum conversion.
You can easily apply for Google Adsense when you have a blog. However, it is essential to follow a couple of steps to ensure your account gets approved. You can find the steps to follow in this article.
Building an Email List (MailMunch)
There is one currency in the blogosphere: email subscribers. They are traffic-on-demand, especially if they were all acquired through your blog.
If you have a blog, you need to grow your email list from day 1. With an active email list, you can sell or promote content directly to them. It makes it easier for you to promote and make money by monetizing your audience.
There are many tools to grow and build your email list. They are mostly freemiums (free up to 1000 email subscribers). I currently use MailMunch for my site DoggieDesires.com. It helps me set up pop-up forms to every new visitor.
You should always use a lead magnet or some sort of incentive to make your visitor join your email list. Whatever you promise, you should provide.
WooCommerce (Dropshipping and Custom Merchandising)
When you have a website, you should not limit yourself to just blogging. You can use WooCommmerce to establish your own online store.
I currently use this to sell dog-related products on my website.
The best part is that I don’t have any storage space for the products that I sell on my website. There are two types of products that I currently have listed on.
Drop shipping is a simple method to start earning online with minimal to no investment at all. All you have to do is find product sellers who are willing to allow you to promote the product on their behalf.
When you have an agreement with a seller, you list these products on your store with a slightly higher price than the original seller. That would be your commission. When your blog visitor buys the product, you can ask the original seller to ship the product directly to them.

Similar to dropshipping but specific for apparel, Custom Merchandising allows you to design your own products online and sell them on your store.
There are many websites, like Teespring, that you can use very easily. You log in to your account and create new and attractive designs that fit your brand.
You can, then, promote them on your site. When a customer likes and buys one of your products, they are shipped directly to them from the service you used to make them. You don’t need to worry about any details except accurately pricing and promoting your product.
Finally, the last way I use to monetize my blog is through Amazon Associates. This is Amazon’s affiliate program which allows you to promote products listed on Amazon’s website and earn a commission whenever someone uses your link to make a purchase.
I have already discussed affiliate marketing in my blog before (here), and Amazon Associates is one of the best program available.
I use a plugin called “EasyAzon” because it makes easier to manage my Amazon links when I post them.
Other ways to monetize your blog
Above I listed the ways I monetize my own blog. However, those are not all there is to it. You can monetize your blog in other ways as well.
Your Own Products or Services:
With WooCommerce, you can even sell your own products. On my DoggieDesires blog, I don’t have any of my own products listed. However, if you have your own products (ebooks, t-shirts, supplements, etc..), you can list on your blog as well. It will allow you to make more money directly from the customer instead of you earning just a commission.
If you have any online services to sell (maybe even offline), you can use your blog as a way to promote yourself and earn money directly. You just need to have a working contact form, a price list and work on getting clients on board.
There are many other ways to make money online, you just have to be creative with them. However, monetizing the blog alone is not the only step. You should figure out how to drive valuable traffic to your blog and convert it.
